The purpose of this site is to address concerns about greed and excess in lifestyles, and to introduce solutions that seem more ethical. This site is an outgrowth of another site at embracepear.org, one dedicated to ideas about Personal Ethics And Responsibility, hence PEAR. It might be useful to visit that site to get a handle on the mindset behind this current blog.

Many of the ideas presented here emerged from the author’s own experiences, from working in architectural offices, at a dealer of mobile and modular homes, and their own life experiences. Things came to a head while trying to determine whether to rebuild a permanent structure to replace a mobile home, or whether to simply effect repairs on that mobile home. This blog will follow that process and address the philosophies of PEAR that informed it.

Sensible Living is mostly about making choices about how much is enough. It is about pragmatism and common sense. Mostly it is about shedding preconceived notions about what a house is “supposed” to be and entertaining the idea that there might be more sensible ways to live.
